The port has two operational tug boats and two operational pilot boats.

Cargo Handling Equipment

The Port has a range of cargo handling equipment suitable for most types of cargo and size of vessel.

Operational activities

Stevedoring, Shore handling and warehousing are performed by the port management. The port provides skilled labours, equipments, materials, organizes and supervises. The stevedoring activities 24 hours service.

Bulk cargo facilities: No special terminals but bulk cargo can be discharged at the commercial harbour by grabs, hoppers, and bagging machine.
Towage: Tug service is compulsory for all vessels >200 GT, and is carried out by two tugs of 6700 hp and 5000 hp.
Bunkering: At all berths can be provided by road truck.
Fresh water: Fresh water is available any time with no restriction to the amount, with connection at any berth.

Provisions : Available in small quantities
Fire fighting: There is well equipped fire brigade station within the port area.
ISPS compliance: Massawa port is ISPS compliant.
